And the rest goes, “And you’ll never work a day in your life.” I am currently at the stage in my life where I am able to do the things I love. My granddaughter, Emma, asked me the other day if I had a job. I had to really think about that because I don’t feel like I have a job but I do have a profession that I get paid for.
“Do I want just another job?”
In July 2020, at the beginning of the lockdown, I found myself unemployed for the first time in a very long time. I fell into the category of what is now referred to as the “great female recession”. Little did I know that I was among a staggering 600,000 women that had left the workforce. Some left because they had children to school at home and others left because they had no choice. I left my full-time job willingly some months prior but still found myself in the same situation. Would I venture out and try to find another job. Did I want just “another job”? What options do I have for working on my terms?
I started doing some research on options. For once in my life, I asked myself, “What do you really want to do?” I always enjoyed nutrition but could that be a job? I found out that yes, the health and nutrition industry was booming. People everywhere were finding that they had squandered their health for money or work. They were so busy taking care of their families that they stopped taking care of themselves and now are paying the price. I also found out that of the women millionaires, 85% acquired this level of income through Network Marketing. I knew a little about Network Marketing. I had been exposed to it through Melaluca and of course, everyone knows about Herbalife. There are a host of beauty brands that are Network or Multi-Level Marketing of some form or another. I supported many of these brands already.
To jump into this type of business model I set some non-negotiables out on the table. First, the products must be in demand and highly consumable. I didn’t want cleaning supplies or beauty supplies because the turnover of products isn’t as frequent as food or supplements. Second, the products must be of the highest quality. I didn’t want to feel like a salesperson. I wanted the products to stand on their own without me trying to “sell” the products. Third, I wanted a company that I could support and that aligned with its core values that I had. Lastly, I wanted a community of people that I respected, that were genuinely interested in helping others and that shared my values.
At this same time, I was introduced to Purium Health Products through my daughter. She shared the Ultimate Lifestyle Transformation with me and my husband. It was a 30-day reset using just five products. We didn’t immediately see the potential for an improved life through nutrition. I was just in it to drop some “Covid Weight” and that shouldn’t take too long. After 30 days I can go back to my life and I will feel better. Well, I was WRONG. The first 10 days were life-changing. I didn’t have the digestive troubles that had plagued me my entire life. I was sleeping soundly all night. I wasn’t gassy and bloated. I didn’t have aches and pains that I had just attributed to getting older. I was happy. My husband had similar feelings. We both did drop 15 and 20 lbs that first month but it was so much more than that. Now I understand that when your body is struggling because of poor nutrition, toxins, or lack of sleep the weight adds up. Once you support your body’s balance and give it the proper nutrition then it will release the weight. It is a nice by-product of giving your body what it needs.
You may wonder why this story, my wellness story, was inserted into my business story. Well, it was a happy coincidence. As I was healing physically I found out that one of the missions of this company was not just to change the way people ate — but to change the way they live. “We want to spread economic freedom and plant-based wellness.” (isharepurium.com) They realized that the power of their movement needed “boots on the ground” and not containers in the health food store. They switched from a traditional business model to the Network Marketing business model because it aligned with their personal, hands-on approach to spreading wellness. I found that I was already sharing my success with others and when I found that the company rewarded its happy customers with commissions and bonuses, I felt like I found my place.
So what is my call to action? I challenge you to find a passion for helping people and match it up with a company you can believe in. If you are looking for an additional income stream, a side hustle, or to replace a full or part-time job outside the home, then contact me and I can tell you my experience and how I highly recommend this new way of earning a living.
